Hotel Birger Jarl Stockholm Review | Travel Sweden

Last weekend I visited Stockholm for my (26th!) birthday. My Mother and I stayed in the Hotel Birger Jarl Stockholm - which is just a 20 minute walk from the Central Train Station.
Hotel Birger Jarl is a 4 star hotel offering a variety of accommodation, with 271 rooms ranging from single rooms for those on a budget, to suites and apartments. The pure scope of rooms available means this hotel is great to stay for business, leisure or I should imagine would be great for families if you’re booking an apartment.
The hotel has a great reputation and is the first hotel in Sweden to have specialised in modern Swedish design. We stayed in a Junior Suite, one of the hotels signature rooms, which meant the room had been created by a renowned Swedish designer -  our room had some great touches including a painted map of the area as an art installation, with a lamp as the ‘You are here’ symbol.

Our suite boasted a very generous 2 bathrooms, a lounge area equipped with a large sofa and a reclined seat which was perfect for relaxing and watching TV from, and an extremely comfortable king sized bed. One particularly nice touch was the curtain that divided the room so I could have a lie in while my mum got up early and read her book in the lounge area. There was plenty of storage space and a safe that wasn’t located on the floor at the back of the wardrobe!!
One bathroom was equipped with a good sized bath- perfect for luxuriating in the evening with a face pack after a days sightseeing. The other was a wet room with a shower. Both were perfectly clean and equipped with plenty of towels and toiletries.

I loved breakfast at this hotel, there were all the usuals: muesli, yoghurts, eggs, bacon, fresh fruit etc. etc. but with a few added extras such as the juice machine that was controlled via an iPad, and on the second day you could make your own waffles. I was pretty impressed with my waffle making efforts:

The hotel has a gym, located on the 7th floor with spectacular views, which was really well kitted out for a hotel gym and had a lot of machines so no waiting around for equipment.
Another great touch is that in our room we had both free wifi and a free mini bar of wine, water and chocolate as well as tea and coffee making facilities (including a Nespresso machine) - so no unexpected extras on our bill for check out.
